The Window of Tolerance has become one of the most influential frameworks for understanding trauma-related dysregulation in children, adolescents, and adults. While it provides a valuable description of observable behavioural states, it tells us little about the rapid brainstem processes that organise these states before they become visible.
This workshop explores how the brainstem detects, organises, and expresses responses to overwhelming experiences before they emerge as observable patterns of arousal, behaviour, or autonomic change. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the brainstem processes thatprecede the behavioural and autonomic states described by the Window of Tolerance, providing a richer neurobiological framework for understanding trauma.
